Pineview tips?
#1
Going to be taking my 2 1/2 yr old to pineview to try to catch him some crappie and perch. I've only ice fished pineview once with not much luck. Any advice with a young one? Is it slushy with the recent storms or will it be easy to keep him dry? Depths? Areas? (Not looking for your own spot but general areas to try) any info will help. Thanks!

Best tip, wait until late May or early June. The Crappie bite is about done from what I can tell. If you can get out early morning you may have better luck through the ice.
Cemetary and Browning points have solid edges and good ice. That ice is covered with a foot of new snow and 3 in of slush. Walking conditions are pretty bad and not enjoyable for a little kid.
We marked fish yesterday from 25-50 ft but nothing was interested in biting.
Pineview ice fishing is best in January and has certainly slowed over the past two weeks. Another idea if your boy can handle the cold weather, then Willard is a good option in March for hungry cats. Cut bait like the anchovies they sell at Sportsmans are deadly on early spring catfish because they are searching for dead shad and minnows. Better than sitting on the ice not catching.

We marked fish as well on Friday. A whole bunch of them. Nothing wanted to bite. Is there a time when the Crappie stop biting through the ice for the season? I was hoping to get out this week after work sometime. I'll report what I find unless someone convinces me it's a lost cause for crappie and perch at Pineview.

To answer your question Friday would not have been great for your kid. Lots of slush and snow and the walking was slow. I took my 6 and 3 year old out when the ice was better. I just marked some fish and got some holes drilled before they were done. We spent the remainder of the day sledding down the hill and they loved that.

Thanks for the tips! We did go out today and were able to follow the frozen trail at browning point so it was easy getting on and off. Once we had the tent up the inside stayed solid so we weren't sitting in slush but It's definitely there. As far as the fishing about the same as everyone else. Saw fish swimming through on the finder and had lookers but couldn't snag any. Willard was my next stop on a weekend I can get out and didn't think the cats would be up and goin yet but sounds like I was way off. I'll definitely have to give that a try!

So it was probably you we saw headed out as we loaded the white Cherokee to head home. Too bad you didn't get into the fish for the little one.

We were out and started by 6 am, by the time we left had missed one bite between the two of us.

Yep that was us! We were just hopin for one for the little guy but he still had fun. He woke up this morning and his first words were I want to go fishing so just getting out is enough for him. We will get into some fish next time for him! We asked the groups that were there also and sounds like each group only caught one or two in there groups so about the same for everyone
