Utah Lake catfish
#1
Been a minute but had a good trip so figured I'd post. Went out to Utah Lake on Wednesday to chase some catfish out of a tube. I used to fish the airport dike weedline religiously until I got suckered in by easy fishing at Lincoln Beach. Launched the tube at daybreak and caught fish right away along the cattails. That seemed to be key. Was fishing cut carp under a bobber. Don't know how deep the water was or how warm but it was warmish. Like TD said, the breeze was playing all day with small increments where it'd quit to change direction and the lake would be glass for a few minutes. Took three home for dad's smoker. Most were 20-25 inches with a couple smaller ones that wanted to take big fish baits. Wore long sleeves, a headscarf and shorts, which didn't work out so well for my knees in the Fishcat tube. That shower when I got home might have sucked more than a little bit. [cool]

[#0000FF]I looked for you out by the springs but didn't see you. Glad you found some action.

You sure got purty knees. That's why I always wear long pants...even when fishing without waders. Also helps reduce the chance of scratching or cutting if you work through some hazardous bottom conditions. But (as I learned) even long pants don't protect against barbed wire...or idiots that string lines with hooks all over the bottom.

I almost got hot tied on one trip to the Knolls. Down in the NO TRESPASSING area the scofflaws throw out their beer can set lines and just leave them. If you fish into shallow water you can find yourself all wrapped up before you know it.

When the wind kicked up outta the south and the west the first time, I thought about packing it in and heading your direction. Then the fish kept biting, convincing me to stay. [cool] You were right about the dike area.... it's completely weeded in out there. Glad to hear you and BLK had a good trip on your end. I need to go tube around the springs one of these days if the wind will cooperate.
