Willard 7/3/17
#1
Finally had a good day at Willard yesterday morning. Put in at So. marina and searched for wipers, but didn't mark many until I got out to the bouys on the west side. Is that what they call the island? Anyway, I trolled a jointed rapala and a lipless crankbait both in perch pattern. Caught 12 wipers, 2 cats, and a walleye before noon. Started trolling at about 2.5 mph and increased to 3.8 mph as the day heated up. I think the bite changed from an eating bite to a reaction bite.

I will have to go again Wednesday or Thursday morning for a repeat.

That was a good day. What time did you start? Taking my nephew out in the morning to chase kitties in our tubes.

They have at least one of those buoy's in the wrong spot, so it's not on the island but the one to the South is in the correct location. To get to the Island from the South marina, you go to the North after leaving the marina, if you went to the West there is only one buoy there and that is in the SW corner, close to the dike. Thanks for the report, good to read those fish are finally starting to bite[cool].

I was at the island location on your map. NW of the marina. I hope they will still be on the bite Thursday morning when I go back.

Was fishing on Monday from shore and lets just say I had two fish on at once. Newbie mistake by pulling my rod from the rock and setting it down since I first did not feel the tug. Lost rod and reel #4 now to the wipers. Good thing was it was just a ugly stik combo that I bought for 20 dollars. These wipers are very clever because they strike when you take your eyes off your poles.

Trolling the other day with CVFISHER. He had his rod propped against the motor when a wiper hit. Barely caught the end of the handle as it launched. Never saw a big guy move that fast. Turned out to be there smallest wiper we've caught all year.

Wipers are sneaky and strong. I always lock my rods into their holders so not to donate to the bay. Monday I had 3 doubles on and may not have noticed a rod abandoning ship had they not been locked in. Hope you hook your rod on your next trip. If you see a red Tracker go by, give me a shout.
