A tale of two days, Willard 07-08-17

After getting out with Wiperslayer on Wens and having our best day of the year, I expect more of the same on Sat, when I fished with Reelfast but it was not to be, at least for Wipers and cats but the catching was better for Walleye[crazy]. Not sure what changed but the catching for the most part was slower, with only 1 wiper and two cats for the day but we did manage 6 eyes. We fished the same area as Wens, same times, went the same speed, used the same lures but that did not work, so we started switching lures until we found a lure that worked. Fish were still in the upper water column and the side planers were the best method to catch fish, just not as many as Wens but still a lot better than last month. One thing I found out, the reason I don't, for the most part, fish the weekends. Glad we got off the water when we did, around noon, because there was a steady stream of the power squad folks coming in as we were leaving. Saw Old Coot and N.E.T.O. as we were covering up Dan's boat, it was good seeing you two. Sorry, no pics, I did not keep any fish this time or think to even take any, because they were pretty standard size fish.

I was hoping to hear that Willard was just getting better and better read another report that said there was starting to be some small boiles , had me so excited I put new line on my casting rods, oh well maybe next week for sure....[bob][bob]

What I was seeing on Wens were not full on boils but what I and others like to call surface activity but the good news is it won't be long now. Wens was pretty calm, with very little wind, yesterday was a walleye chop most of the morning and that puts the wipers down, at least it's harder to see if they are right on top.

Thanks for the report Curt, sure wish I could get out and try it. I need a wiper tug. Just started cutting second crop though, so it won't be too soon. Thanks for letting us know how the bite is going. Later J
