[#0000FF]Attaching a cut and paste article from yesterday's Salt Lake Tribune...for those of you that just can't get enough Utah Lake bashing.
I have fished UL for decades and I can reckymember at least some mid-summer (or later) algae bloom just about every year. It has gotten worse as the population has increased around the lake...along with increase in treated wastewater being dumped each year...with all that phosphorus. Last year was the worst because it was at the end of several years of poor runoff and lower water levels...with higher waste water dumping. The ratio of phosphorus to clean water molecules was abnormally high.
HOWSOMEVER...even with the conditions being as bad as they were there were no fish dieoffs, mass human poisonings or other scary stuff prophesied by the Chicken Little contingent. And even just a short time after the green goo subsided there were no measurable residues in any fish tissue samples. Nobody died or glowed in the dark after eating fish from Utah Lake...after the algae bloom.
Still, it is better to stay away from any areas that are visibly green. It is especially suggested that you keep kids and pets out of it.
The major exception is that it has been suggested by many that those members of the power squadron who delight in ripping up the lake and "blessing" all other lake goers with their high decibel noises should not be worried at all. In fact, it is strongly recommended that they gather a few 55 gallon drums of the icky stuff, take it home and make up some slime-margaritas. Yum.

The good side of it is that the number of boaters to compete with has dramatically dropped off. I always launch early by myself, but expect the AF marina to be busy when I return, but I'm still pretty much alone even later. Guess it's skeered most of em off.

[#0000FF]Looking at your pics I would guess that the green goo in your pics is regular green algae...which blooms all over the lake every year.
The problem toxic stuff is "blue green" algae...with cyanotoxins. As the name suggests it leaves a blue green coating on all the shoreline rocks and gravel. And it is less likely to show up in lesser populated areas of the lake...like the Knolls...because there are no treated wastewater outlets nearby.
On the other hand, the first place it showed was in Provo Bay...where there is a major outlet of treated wastewater. Ditto around Provo Harbor and Lindon.
In short, it is not uncommon to see algae forming anywhere around the lake during the hot weather. The blue-green algae is usually less common but more problematic.

[#0000FF]You can always substitute "radiant personality" for glow in the dark. But there are some "vampire" types that avoid the sun to the point they are borderline transparent. Never knew that kilts were an option. Definitely might help with the "air conditioning" on overheated nether parts.
While on a temporary work assignment in the New Orleans area I was told that night fishing was easy down there...because the fish all glowed in the dark. Seems there are a lot of nasty things dumped in the mighty Mississippi betwixt Minnesota and N'awlins.
How's the war wound coming along? Back to playing soccer yet? Fishing?

More than one person has referred to my skin color as "transparent". [laugh] They didn't say that kilts were an option, but the never said that they weren't. And there's a company out there that makes a nice tactical kilt that come in handy. A kilt and cowboy boots would be an interesting fashion statement. [:p]
I'm fishing, but not as often as I'd like. I've only been 4 times this year and the heel still gets irritated if I overdo it but it's much, much better.

Hey, I got lots of that Scandinavian blood in me and there ain't nothin' about me that could be described as "glowing."
I did that 23andme thing where they do a DNA search a spit sample... almost pure Scandinavian but there is a heavy dose of Neanderthal somewhere in the distant past. Wife says it explains a lot.

Can't trust that test, similar test said the same about me and the Neanderthal but it turns out that my wife is always right, more Neanderthal, less everything else.
