[#0000FF]TV news last night and an article in this morning's Salt Lake Tribune confirm that there is still enough algae hanging around in Utah Lake to keep the advisories in place. A lot less than last year but because of lingering warm temperatures the algae had maintained a presence.
Attaching a cut and paste from today's Tribune.

Did you see the E-coli warning as well? Sounded like Lincoln and somewhere else they are warning you not to be in the water.... J

[#0000FF]Yeah, that's crappy...not crappie.
Sandy Beach is near the mouth of the Spanish Fork River. No rest rooms there so everybody just buries their "leavings" in a hole in the sand. Not good for healthy water.
Most of the rest of the problems around the lake are due to poorly treated outfalls from sewage treatment facilities around the lake. There is only one plant that is removing the target quantity of phosphorus from their waste water. See attached map for locations.

Meh, I was at Lincoln this a.m. and saw the newly posted warning sign. Water looked healthy green today rather than algae green. Cattin' was good too.
These algae warnings have only kept me off the water one time and that was on a day last year when I hooked up with Pisco for an assault on the cats. The water looked like pea soup and the wind was blowing kinda hard. We cancelled out.
The algae warnings always cause me grief cuz sweet wife hassles me about being exposed to bad bugs. Not sure I would want to swim in the lake or, heaven forbid, fall out of my boat. About the only time I touch the water is when releasing a fish or maybe lifting an anchor. I hav niver noticd eny prblums or sines thet I has bin exposd 2 ecolli or enythink that wood be a wwarnig sine.
Phish on...

[#0000FF]According to the biweekly updates from the Utah Dept. of Environmental stuff...last year's algae counts were a lot higher and potentially more dangerous. This year the warnings have stayed up longer but the severity has not been as bad. Last year the water levels were lower and the nutrients (phosphorus and nitrogen) were proportionately higher. This year there has been less wind and sustained warmer temperatures. Once the fall patterns of colder temps and more breezes kick in the algae thing will drop off quickly.
It looks bad sometimes...and it can be harmful if you eat spoonfuls of it. But tests have shown that there is little harmful fallout from eating fish from the lake. They do not accumulate the toxins in their flesh...as with PCBs. None of the fish sampled after the worst of it last year had any cringe-worthy effects.
About the wife thing. Just look concerned and thank her for caring so much about you. Then go fishing.
Harmful effects? No worries. Being able to glow in
the dark makes night fishing easier...even if it does attract more skeeters.
