Strawberry on Labor Day
#1
Took the kids fishing on Strawberry today. I was fully expecting the reservoir and its boat ramps to be overrun with holiday crowds—an expectation that did not go unfulfilled. We trolled around the Soldier Creek side for a bit and through the narrows for a bit more, and had very little action. Admittedly, fishing with a 9 and 10 year old who are going through wifi withdrawal cut the productivity a bit. I saw some fish on the finder in the 30-45 ft range but couldn't get a consistent bite. The best action seemed to come from an articulating plastic. I did remember to charge the Water Wolf in advance, so videos of some of the action can be found below (fresh today!):

Going back over Daniels Summit toward Heber, the convoy of RVs wrapping up their weekend looked like a freight train. I've not experienced stop and go rush hour traffic through there before, but with the construction going on on the Heber side, it felt just like being in the city.

Awesome video, that is really neat to see what is going on a with the fish and lure. I will have to show the kids tomorrow. How fast is the lure going? Thanks for posting the video.

Good job on the video.... always fun to see what's really going on 'down under'....I assume those were cutts? ....that's about all we caught my last 2 trips to Soldier Creek, but still fun..... good luck keeping the kids involved.......

The camera always seems to make it appear like you're going quite fast, but I was between 1.5 and 2 mph.

Thanks for posting your video. I love my Water Wolf, puts a whole new dimension on fishing and also educational.

It's been enormously educational for me. I realized last summer after watching a few hours of video that if you're not catching, change the presentation. Fish after fish would come up behind certain lures and then immediately lose interest. More fish are inspecting your setup than your fish finder indicates.

We fished what I figure is our last trip for the season this morning as well. We launched from the Strawberry Marina at around 0620 and headed right for the SC side. I had marked/caught kokanee on Monday over there beneath what I call Squaw Peak, a prominent point on the SC side that resembles a peak on the mountain above our home in Provo.
We caught one within minutes of sending our dodger/squid combo to 45', along with 3 others in the next 3 hours, interspersed with a multitude of small cutts and a slot cutt or few. After filleting the one koke caught on Monday, I realized that they were considerably past their prime so all were released today.
We stopped at the fish trap on Strawberry river on Sunday evening - there were over 2000 red kokanee already there. If you haven't seen that you should take time along with your kids to see it.
We pulled the trailer and boat home for the season. Be back on the kokanee next year.
