Ice Auger
#1
Question for you all. I recently purchased a Eskimo propane auger. I put it together and it runs fine. When I attach the auger the whole thing starts to wobble. Is this normal for a new power auger. Anyone know how to tell if it's the shaft on the motor side that's not square or the auger side? Should I take it back and just get a new one? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like something is out of center so I'd take it back if you can. Sorry about that that ruins your new toy fun. Good luck J

Dumb question, but are you sure everything is hooked together correctly? A small misalignment at the connection makes a huge difference on the other end. I'm sure you checked that, but just in case you didn't I'd take it apart at the joint and make sure there isn't anything in the way to make it so it doesn't seat properly together. Good luck J

Are you actually trying to drill something or just holding it as the auger part spins ?? If you don’t have the auger blades against the ice it will wobble the whole auger, motor and all. Not sure if that’s your issue but might be worth trying before you return it.

So I think we're talking about the same thing. So yes if it's on the ground the motor wobbles about 1/2 inch and the same thing if I lift it up. How does the ice control this if "ice" is the issue, any advice?

Without seeing what it is actually doing, it's hard to visualize.... But, those augers are four stroke augers and they do have some good torque on them. I don't have an data in front of me to back it up, but I think they have more torque than a lot of the gas mixed augers (unless you had a big gas mixed auger before).

When they are actually punching through the ice you likely won't notice the wobble because the auger can't move as much side to side (movement restricted by the ice on the sides forming the hole).

I bought a Jiffy Propane Auger 3-4 seasons ago and I love it. I hear good things about the Eskimo as well.

I believe UTWALLEYE provided the correct answer, try it on the Ice and the wobble will go away.

What size is the auger ? I have a 10in. Eskimo two stroke and it has wobble in the auger. But with the auger off the motor shaft is perfectly straight when it’s running. Can you take off the auger and run the motor?? That is the best way to check the motor shaft. If the shaft is nice and straight then you shouldn’t have a problem.
