Hey all.
I from the Layton area and am just getting going with fishing as an adult. I fished a bit when I was younger with my grandpa and dad occasionally but haven't done much in the last 20 years. My 12 year old son enjoys fishing and wants me to take him more as he used to go a fair amount with my mother-in-law. I've taken him a few times this year. I'm not a big winter outdoors guy, but my son loves to ski and doesn't mind the cold. He really wants to try ice fishing this year so I'm just poking around seeing what I can learn. Seems some other states have some great rental units and such, but not much available here that I've found so far.

Welcome aboard! Sorry you missed our annual awards dinner, you'd have been able to meet many of our avid icers. But I still predict you'll get a "come along" invitation from members here.

Hey it's great to have you join us on BFT... Pretty sure you can learn more than you have time for here... Lot's of great folks here that are willing to help and share what you need to know... Sounds like you were somewhat like me, left fishing for awhile but found your way back as ya got a little later in life... fishing is great for kids and you can have a blast with your family for not a lot of cash outlay... Most of us are just getting ready to switch over to ice fishing mode, so lots of projects and ice gear procurement going on lately... I'm heading north to Henry's lake this weekend for my first ice of the year... Kind of excited about that... Anyway your question about rental packages, I'm not sure I've seen any offers, but if they are out there, someone on here will likely know and point them out to you... If you're wanting to just try it and don't want to invest the funds yet let me know, I have extra set ups and you and your kids could come try it with me sometime if you like... I have enough poles and tackle to fish 5-6 extra, so let me know we can try Mantua after it ices up, or Pineview.... Let us know what you're thinking and we can probably help ya out... Later Jeff

That is extremely kind of you. I think trying it out would be great. I'll keep that in mind once the lakes start icing up.

Most likely late December to early January we'll be fishing Mantua first and then move to other lakes as the ice spreads. If I don't remember just remind me and we'll get ya lined up to meet on the ice. I'll have a tent and heater set up if we need to warm up. Electric Nils punches holes pretty easy all you'll need is a bucket or chair to sit on and warm clothes/boots. See ya then. J

Welcome, Glen!
My signature line changes slightly with seasons, but always includes fishing invitations. I have all that we need. Let's go ice fishing!

Welcome to BFT. I'll tag onto Skunked's post. More than willing to take you and your son ice fishing. I can even provide the gear. Mantua is usually good when it first freezes. Keep your eye on the board and when it ices up, we'll go.

Welcome to BFT and thanks for posting. Many of us on here would gladly take you and your son fishing. If you want to rent a shelter The Strawberry Bay Marina (Link) probably still rents them.
