I decided since the weather is supposed to go south on us next week that I would give Cleveland a shot. I haven't fished it since June 13th so things were a lot different. The reservoir was about 1/2 covered with ice when I got there and about 1/3 covered when I left. With next weeks predicted cold temperatures I'm guessing these upper elevation reservoirs are going to be capped.
I launched my tube about 10:30 and fished until 3:30 and only caught a few cookie cutter rainbows between 13" and 15" long, this years planters. I used a medium sinking line with a size 6 bead head red bunny leech and a size 8 bead head Angstrom 300 (a John Shultz pattern).
The water temperature as 37 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 8'.
The reservoir level is at 46% and rising.
It was a nice day and even though I only caught a half dozen fish, I hooked more than twice as many that flipped me off.[:/]
The soft water days are numbered.[:/]
I included a picture of Mammoth to show the ice cover at about 3:45 Saturday afternoon.
I'll bet you ice guys are getting excited. There is not much snow on the ground so these reservoirs will be easy to access when the ice gets thick enough to safely fish.
