Lake Powell Striper Trip
#1
We went to Wahweap at Lake Powell last year at the end of March. There was a lot of talk about how good the fishing was at Bull Frog earlier in March of last year, so we decided to go to Bull Frog this year on March 7th. Now, I have not seen or heard anything about the fishing there and how it is. Wayne has not posted any updates since February 6th!!
Does anyone know how the fishing is now in Bull Frog for stripers and where to focus our fishing efforts.
Thanks for the help.

We fished Bullfrog last year over the weekend of March 13. The weather was beautiful! The fishing was extremely tough.

I haven't heard too many reports from that area lately.

I doubt this year will be much like any previous year. The best advice is that you won't catch many if you don't go.

It seems like March weather will be like the usual February weather. How that will affect the fish is beyond my ability to guess. But one constant is that the stripers follow the shad.

There are always fish available at Powell. Depending on how far you want to run, either up or down stream, you can find fish. If you are looking for stripers, I would go to the back of Bullfrog, to the gravel bars that are exposed, graph out in 25-40 ft of water till you find the fish, drop a spoon on them. It won't be fast fishing, but should be steady.

Up lake, Forgotten, Cedar, and 7 mile will offer decent SMB, Walleye, and LMB, with Stripers and Crappie also available. Work the slide area's in the front to mid canyon with grubs, cranks, and drop shot offerings.

The area around Halls Marina, Halls Creek canyon, Stanton Creek, are also good spots. Just remember, slow down, fish a bit deeper than you normally do, and don't expect hot and heavy action. Water is cold, fish are lethargic, and they move slowly.

ENJOY, anytime at Powell is a great time !!!

That is a wonderful, helpful post!! Thanks so much for the time and information. We will definitely give those spots a try. Last year in March we were hearing all about the stripers in Bull Frog. Not so much this year. Wayne called me yesterday and said the water is pretty cold but look for the bumps on the bottom in the backs of the canyon where they rest and drop to them. He said you will be surprised how they come alive. He showed me a picture of his graph with the bump and then he showed what it looked like after he dropped spoons on them. Incredible how many fish filled up the screen. Of course, he was in Warm Creek Canyon near Wahweap.
I hope we can find some fish. I would love to find some walleye so thanks again for that tip.
I love BFT.

I was down last year, about the 30 th . Caught my fish , walleyes, bass, crappie, at the very back of the canyons. Best if there's a stream. Cloudy water was best.
Strippers were in the open waters down deep. Look for help at the fish cleaning stations, the people usually are help full.
