I took Thursday off work and spent the day at Willard south getting the season opener maintenance done on the boat. My little TinCan will be 11 years old this July and has blessed me with many, many enjoyable hours on some of the various northern waters of this state[
]. And given me a few seconds once or twice of flat out shear heart stopping terror! [pirate]. Thursday I got the oil and filter and lower end lube changed. I replaced 2 corroded out side guide lights (have to do that almost every season, but the whole assemblies are cheaper than a pack of 2 new bulbs [:/]) Also replaced the carpet on the bunks and repaired some on the side guides.
Had a pleasant conversation with a DNR Ranger (he was in his truck and I was sitting behind my motor lower end, so didn't see his name)
Just as I was finishing getting road ready to leave, a BFT'er I've seen on the forum several times but never met walked up and started a conversation. Was good to put another face with a name. Didn't get any lines wet Thursday, but confirmed the boat still has a sound hull and floats, and all the doo-dads in it still work.
Friday was my normal off day - pay day so decided to see if I could sneak up on Ahi at BRBR. Well I got there, but turns out he was having some work done on his truck, and I was the only person I saw anywhere on the river that was fishing (NOT catchin, just fishin)
Spent Saturday doing some home chores, and some additional tinkering on the boat.
The weather guessers said that is was gonna be about 50-50-50 today in the Utah Lake area. 50 % clouds, 50 % sun, & 50 degrees. I figured that was kinda in my tolerance range and headed out what I thought was early this morning. (Forgot Daylight Saving Time started last night) They been "saving daylight" for as long as I can remember. I sure hope we are gonna get some of it back someday. [sly]
Anyway, I got all my clocks "sprung forward" an hour. Or I though I did until I turned on my sonar at Lincoln Beach. It was only off by an hour..................[:/]
LB Marina is averaging 3 to 3.5 fow, and a pretty steady 3.5 fow down the middle of the channel to the mouth where it opens up to 4.5 fow, and quickly drops off to
6 - 7 fow around to left heading towards the first spring.
I never got even that far. Just outside the channel I saw lots of stuff in the water that was making a good impression of fish, so I anchored out and dropped in a couple lines. OK, no details, just call this skunk # 1 for me at LB and # 2 for t he season so far.[mad]
The wind was a bit more than I wanted to deal with , the fish were not cooperating, and again, I was the only crazy out there. Called it and early day and beat the traffic back to Ogden.
