Corn?
#1
Anyone had any luck with corn? Where legal, thinking of trying it at Flaming Gorge.

There are several threads on here discussing it, but Gulp Maggots are more effective.

[#800000]My buddy who fishes the Gorge all summer long, has been experimenting with different flavors of corn that he makes up and we have found that certain scents seem to work SLIGHTLY better than Gulp maggots. But not enough better for me to invest the time to make my own. I'll continue to use the Gulp product. A prefer the Gulp Alive version vs the regular Gulp version; bigger maggots in the Alive.[/#800000]

I have heard the same, not really worth the effort and the mess if it tips over in the boat.

Not caught and big cats at all yet. A few young ones still wearing their spots. Weather has been so varied between warm, cold, wind, wet, I'm not sure they know what time of years it is yet. But have been getting out and checking out some of the spots along the river that look like good possibles when it warms up and dries out.

For what it’s worth, I use corn at FG, and also use maggots.

I’ve had more days where the corn did better then maggot then not, but it’s still be close.
I’ve also had good luck with some old maggots I had that was dried up, that I brought back to life with corn juice.

I like corn & will continue to use it, but will also keep it 50/50 with maggots on the other side as well

Ya , we went two weeks ago to Sheep creek bay , experimented. With both corn and maggots. Caught 1 on corn - maggot combo 1 on nightcrawler .My son did the best getting 7 on rainbow power bait.

corn works sometimes better than the other stuff
just like lures what works one day does not work the next day
you can buy corn already mixed are make it your self
Google corn for kokanee I would take corn

My buddy swears by corn there over the gulp. He makes his own concoction which could make a skunk run for cover. I'll stick with Gulp Maggots (pink) as I've had good success with that. Even if the corn worked better, it would have to be significant for me to deal with that smell.

I didn't realize there were concoctions and mixes involved I thought you could just put. a kernel of corn on your hook and catch a fish.It worked in the olden days when it was legal everywhere.

To the original question, Yes i have used it, no i haven't had any luck. haha But i do have a related question. What is the legality of pack baits? A lot of the recipes use a grain base like panko or oats mixed with a can of corn and its juice as well as packet of jello powder. Seems really popular in other states for carp and catfish but i wondered if this was a form of chumming dew to the fact that you pack on a large ball, toss it out and it kinda falls apart. Anyone some insight? ps. hope its not too much of a hijack...
