Got my second slam out at Willard this morning. Started fishing this morning about 9, midway on the west dike. Wipers were found in 15 or 16 FOW. Smallies, kitties and the lonesome bluegill were caught tight against the dike. Off the water by noon. Power squad started showing up. Final count for the day, four wipers, six catfish, 20+ smallies and a lonely little bluegill. Fly of the day was a black and gold Crystal Bugger.

[#0000FF]Your "bluegill" is a green sunfish. Used to be hordes of them in Willard but don't see many anymore. Wipers like the small ones when the shad are scarce.[/#0000FF]

I caught a few last summer. This was the first one this year. Yes, its a dang fine sushi board. Although, I did miss my big board.

[#0000FF]That one may be a bit smaller, but it's got a lot more experience. I trained it well.

Nice looking fish, that wiper looks suspiciously striper though, I can’t see in the net too good but I don’t see the broken lines like the wiper has. Did you get a close up pic of it ? or did you keep it ? I used to catch those green sun fish in Utah lake a long time ago, pretty little fish they are.

Sorry, but that's the only picture. Kept it and enjoyed the fish tacos last night!

Nice job Larry, I sure don't have your feel for that fly flinging... I'm going to try my 5 Wt next time and hope a wiper doesn't whip me with it... you sure have developed a great knack for that pond. Nice job... Later J

Ahi,
medium dumbbell eyes (any color)
Sz 8 hooks (get bigger as the summer progresses)
Marabou tail (color to compliment the chenille)
Chrystal chenille (black/red, black/red/purple, midnight fire, etc.)
Palmer the body with a hackle feather the same color as the trail
Pretty straight wooly bugger with lead eyes. I like dark colors,. But sometimes silver and white also work well. I'm not convinced color is critical, retrieval speed and depth are important. Keep it moving just off the bottom. If you're hanging on the bottom often, speed up. Never hanging, strip slower.
