Cast Nets legal in Europe?
#1
Hi everyone,

I came here at the suggestion of a friend to ask if anyone knows if cast nets (6ft) are allowed in Europe, specifically Portugal. I fish a nearby pier and would love to throw my net out to get some live bait.

Any advice or information would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the site Ryan, I'm not sure if this pertains to Portugal but I'll give you a link to the entire article and you can decide but it says:
Recreational fishing • Fishing (i.e. an activity intended to catch fish or
other aquatic organism) which is not deemed to be
commercial fishing (i.e. catching and selling fish in
order to support a livelihood, at least in part).
• Angling, the use of nets, longlines, hand-held
lines from small boats or from the shore, and capture
of fish by freedivers and sport divers with spearguns,
are various forms of fishing included in the definition
of recreational fishing, provided that no sale of fish is
involved.

Thank you for the info wipehunter!

From reading that my understanding is that I’m good to go as long as I have a licence, which I already have, and I don’t sell my catch. I know the limit here is 25kg per person so I should be pretty safe in that respect haha

Again, thank you for your help.
