Lincoln Beach exciting news
#1
I've been working on a volunteer opportunity at Lincoln Beach. It's the Adopt-A-Shoreline program. Pending final approval BFT will adopt the Lincoln Beach Access Point. This will involve trash cleanup and invasive weed notification to the Utah Lake Commission. This will be a very positive pursuit and will get our name out more to the general public. "Everybody talks about the trash problem but nobody does anything about it." I know that many of us already pick up all the garbage we can when out fishing, but this will give us a chance to have our efforts be seen. We have to do three cleanup events (I'm thinking April, June and September to avoid the heat). We would also need to keep the area somewhat cleaned up by individuals in between the major cleanup events. Anyway, as they say, more details to follow. I'd love to hear from anyone who can support this project.

(Apologizes to anyone who thought that I was going to say that they were dredging the harbor and channel[crazy]. One step at a time.)

Hey Craig that sounds like a good project, but it is a little out of my range of travel, but maybe I can make one of them. Set it up with a partial day fishing and maybe it will get me down there. Thanks J

A couple of thoughts and observations on the proposed “adoption” of LB Access point:

Your ideas are very noble and admirable. Anytime garbage is gathered from around the Old Pond it is a good thing. As TD has said, most of us have at one time or another participated in a group cleanup and any BFTer worth his cut bait would never pass up a piece of garbage. We do random acts of clean up all the time.

The LB launch, pavilion, and restroom areas are maintained very admirably by the campground hosts assigned each year. The area north and west of the parking lot around to the Lincoln Point Access area has been acquired by Ut. County with the intent to develop it into something similar to Lincoln Beach – camping, tables, grass, stuff like that. They have started to install the infrastructure and it is likely that they will begin in earnest with heavy equipment as weather permits. There is not much by way of garbage between LB and the LB Access point, mostly because it is not accessible by vehicle. The area at the first spring where all the white bass fishing takes place during the winter months can be very littered with assorted trash. Sadly, L-D-R’s description was not far off but may have been a bit exaggerated. I have fished Lincoln for the past 50 years and I have never seen abandoned washers, dryers, or assorted car parts – Corona beer bottles and worm containers – yup, in disgusting abundance. This is especially disappointing because there is a large dumpster located a couple hundred yards away in the LB parking lot.

I would support any clean up project in the LB area. If the county begins pushing dirt, rocks, sagebrush, frags, and tamarisk around in that area it might not be a place for BFTers to be tripping around.

With regard to the get togethers: Great idea! We have had some great “Flotillas” at Lincoln in the past. (See TD’s pics in another post). In times past we have secured the pavilion as needed, fished for half day and retired to some mighty good grub served up by a guy who knows how to cook ‘em. I’m all in on something like that.

Keep us posted as your projects progresses.

Count me in. As you know I am a second tier user. Often, but not as often as the tier 1 folks[Wink]

I appreciate your wry sense of humor, Kent. I know it's a ways for you to come, but I also know you travel a lot to fish and we'll include that, too. [Smile] [fishon]

I appreciate that. Kids have to be 10 or older but I don't see why the younger ones can't be part of the in-between-events pick-up.

Jeff it is a long way from Cache Valley but you are sure welcome any time. The big plus is that you could poach one of our big fat cats since I know you don't have any up there [shocked][Wink].

I knew we could count on you and hope you'll bring your extended and extensive crew with you. Many hands and all that. Lincoln Point has already been adopted. I don't know how far around our area will be but I expect the boundary will be somewhere between the springs and the actual geographical point. I went out fishing with Jim, the campground host, a couple of times last year and I expect we can interface with him easily on things like dumpsters and parking.

Count me in Craig. Every time I go Bank Tangling at Lincoln Beach I leave with a bag of trash. Usually Corona bottles and bait containers. Sometimes I hit the jackpot. Last year I recovered two folding chairs, landing net, a leatherman. Try not to schedule for March. I am planning to boat a 34” kitty before Lynn boats his 36”. Got to get the jump on those Northern boys!😃

Count me and my kids in. I always end up packing a trash bag of trash home over around on the Goshen Bay side when we go over there fishing. We love to lend a hand. Keep me posted

Hey Craig, that sounds like a good idea. Like the majority of other BFT'ers, my wife and I firmly believe in "pack it in- pack it out" as well as any other refuse we come across. Have been known to pull in my lines and go after trash that floats by in my visual range.
We would be happy to participate in at least one of those scheduled fish-trash pick up-BFT get togethers as long as we know in sufficient time to set our schedules up, and maybe more than one, time permitting.
We have one issue that maybe can be addressed with the county folks. As was stated by others, the camp ground hosts do a great job of maintaining the camp ground and the rest rooms during the season. But there isn't any bathroom facilities available out of season. Maybe a vault toilet could be included in the first round of improvements. Or at least a couple porta-jons. It is quite a fur piece to any available bathrooms during the time the camp g round is closed. And as we get older, it can become a real "emergency" to find a place to "go". Especially for the women folk.
Now, I have a camp type toilet bucket I carry on the boat, but for times we may be there in late fall or early spring doing bank tangling, that just isn't do-able.

Just our input. Keep the forum advised as plans come together and we would like to help. [fishin]

[#0000FF]If it will ease your troubled mind, that is one of the most common suggestions to the county for improving the Lincoln Point facilities. You might say that at some times of year it is "un-canny".[/#0000FF]

Pat, I didn't figure I was the first or only one to mention the lack of facilities. Just figured I'd throw it out there AGAIN [Wink]
Of course I was betting on a snappy response from you.

Yes, Shawn, they have it all set up with the Commission. It would be great if you could make it down. Bring your boat and catch some cats.

Forest, I've been thinking that the first one could be in late April when it's decently warm, second in late June so it's not too hot and avoids the July exodus, and the third in September when it has cooled down a little and the hunting seasons haven't gotten in full swing yet.
