Looking to head up to the big blue tomorrow, rumor has it it may have capped or may have enough ice to prevent fishing. Anyone with any updates on water condition. Thanks

Welcome to BFT, hope Mike or Scott will give you some up to the minute info, but if not, call the hot line at the Marina after 5:30 tonight the number is 435-946-8501... They have a lake report recorded within the last few days that will help you know what to plan on... You may be able to try the traffic cams or there is one that looks over the lake that may work too... I just get on Google and do a search to Bear Lake webcams...Good luck... Jeff

I heard 50 to 60 percent capped as of yesterday. Most of the ice is on the west side and has the state park marina locked down tight( mile or so out to open water). Large areas of ice on the rock pile area as well as Gus’s point. East side open from second point into Idaho but first point ramp locked with ice.

Not that I'm dumb enough to get on it today, but any idea how thick that ice sheet was???? Man I'd love to ice fish that pond this year... Thanks Jeff

A week ago it was only a half inch or so. We broke through some last Sunday with the boat. If it’s moving around you wouldn’t catch me on it

Hey Jeff, it's not safe where there is ice.
My guess is 1 1/2" thick immediately in front of the marina and probably a bit thicker the more north you go into Idaho. Most of the ice that is floating around and along the south east side is 1" to 1 1/2". Not much of a change from yesterday, but it is zero degrees here in Garden City right now (9:30 pm), so it may get a little thicker. Provided we get no wind, it may get thick enough to get on in a few places in a few days. Mike [signature]

Yes I agree Bear Lake needs thicker ice for me to dare try it. Hope we get a couple days to try it. But it will be amazing if we do. Later J

Bear lake state parks reports the lake is 30 percent covered with ice today after warmer temps and wind. Big change from Saturday with most of the lake capped except out in front of south eden and rainbow cove. Get the boats again!!

Yup I thought it was too late to cap, but would have been cool if we could have gotten a couple days of ice. Guess I should’ve went by there on the way to the gorge and checked it out. Oh well maybe next year. Thanks for the update. J
