Utah Lake harbors ice off?
#1
Seeing as how the catfish contest starts on Friday, some of us want to know if we can launch boats, especially at Lincoln Beach and Provo. Anyone with any information please post. Provo is still iced in as of today, Tuesday, Feb. 26.

I just got off the phone with S. Springs and they are ice free (see pic attached). The guy from Lindond said he went sail boating out of there yesterday. Provo is still half iced up (second Pic).

I'd bet Lincoln is open, but no proof.

Let the fun begin, even if a bit slowly at first!

If it is deep enough couldn't people use the old ramp that goes into the river at the Provo Harbor or is that a no no?

I think that is only for tubes, kayaks and other shallow-draft craft, but I don't know for sure. Somebody else will, I bet.

I saw a couple guys in a small aluminum bass boat use it on Monday. What's stopping you from using it besides water depth? I live so close to the harbor that I spend more time there than I probably should. There's never any issues with using it. A ramp is a ramp, right?

I’m hoping with these warming weather patterns we will be ice free at the harbors so we can get this tournament under way and get some of these early cats. Aahhhh I’m biting at the bit. I got another new rod and reel so I’ve for 2 new rods that need need to be broke in in a reel bad way.

Small amount of slush in the channel in two areas of LB. Launching should’t Be an issue.

Thanks for the update and picture. It should easily be gone by Friday! Water is going to be a bit cool though.

Hey, Jim, just try to stay out of the water. I know you were practicing your swan dive last year but we don't want a repeat performance. Anyway, I'll be there to drag you out if you do go in. But with my balance issues it may be you dragging me in. I had enough of falling in the lake last year, but that was when it felt like a warm bath.

Well, We better both stay out of the water this time, it definitely won't feel like a warm bath!

Good news, my house guests will arrive on Wednesday and I have tentative approval for Friday fishing.

Bad news, they have downgraded the forecast for Friday, but at least they aren't forecasting high winds..yet[Tongue]

I'll send you a PM

I forgot one thing. I'm still pretty agile for 60 something (well agile at least), so I don't need help getting into the boat when I fall in. I need someone to guide the boat back to where I'm flopping around in the cold water[Wink]

Check this out. There is an airboat breaking up the ice at the outside edge of the UL State Park harbor.

Looks like at least the outer few ramps are ready[Smile]

That's odd looking. Almost like a wave line at a beach, taken from altitude above it. [:/]

Hey MSM,

I didn't see your post until after I posted mine. I think I was busy trying to get a picture in it.

Thanks for the update[Wink]
