A friend and I heard that the ice was coming off Pali
e so we drove down today to check it out. We didn't get on the water until around 10:30 after a dicey trip over Huntington Canyon and down Fairview Canyon.
The reservoir was pretty much ice free. We launched at the boat ramp and covered most of the lake. The reservoir is about 60% full and quite murky. The visibility in the water was only about 2'.
We used medium sinking lines with size 6 & 8 crystal buggers in black/silver, black/orange/pearl, & green/pearl. We fished until about 2:15 and we only managed to pick up three tigers and eight rainbows between the two of us.
The fishing was slow but it was so good to get back in the water again and the weather couldn't have been much nicer. The winds were calm and the temperature got into the low 50's. The water temps were 40 - 43 degrees.
The rainbows were from 12" - 14", last years stocked fish. The tigers were 14" - 16" and skinny.
The were a few ducks, geese, and deer to keep us entertained while we were waiting for the next fish.[
