The wife and I went up to Flaming Gorge from Wednesday to Sunday and boy what a trip it turned out to be. We booked Randy Browning of Flaming Gorge Charters on Wednesday and I'll tell you what this guy knows his stuff about catching BIG lakers on the Gorge. We caught 14 lakers From 3 lbs - 25 lbs for a total of 14 on Wednesday. My arms were sore from bringing in these fish and I only caught for of them. The better half caught 10 with 2 being 25 lbs +. WOW! It was so exciting getting to see her reel in those fish. She is one Hell of a great fisherwoman!!!!
We were able to duplicate a bit of the success as Wednesday the next few days but nowhere near the catch rate. Of course the wife caught them all as I steered and netted the huge macs.
The kokanee fishing was pretty hot at times too. Fished all over the lake. Sheep creek caught a few but most were small dinks that got set free to grow. Linwood Bay had some nicer sized ones and a green uv squid with a glow orange dodger worked the best. Then it was up to Anvil Draw where we went with you guessed it PINK!!!! We had several doubles and had a hard time keeping lines in the water. Caught 15 + but only kept 5 all between 17-19 inches. Best setup was a pink osprey lure from kokanee creek tackle and a large double D silver dodger from Mack's lures. Fishing was best in about 80 ft of water and 35-45 ft down.
I'd like to give Randy a big THANK YOU! for making this trip unforgettable for the wife and I. If you ever get a chance to go out with him I highly recommend going for it.
