Starvation Update
#1
I got off work at 2 am and launched at Rabbit Gulch at 4:30 am. My Wife is now positive that I have a couple of screws lose she said that I left little doubt. I wanted to launch at knight Hollow but I was a little worried about the wind, so you might say I was old yeller clear through. Water temp at launch was 60 degrees but what a beautiful morning, I now had high expectations. I started trolling cranks at around 2.0 mph and changed speeds as often as my Mrs changes her mind. By first light i had my first rays of hope with a 14 inch smally on a #5 firetiger flicker shad I was sure it just had to be a walleye but to no avail. Over the next 3 plus hours I caught 20 smallies 3 over 13 inches on anything from cranks to plastics. They were all in 4 to 14 feet of water and I surmise that they are starting to nest. The water clarity was incredible in many spots I could see bottom in 17 feet of water not exactly prime Walleye conditions. I guess I should have launched at knight Hollow. Overall not a bust but Walleye and Perch were my target species and I was skunked by that measure. But I suggest if anyone goes to Starvation they fish where the water is at least a little dis colered.

Thanks for the detailed report. I really want to catch some smallmouth this year and am just wondering if you can do any good from the bank.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

[#0000FF]Most years the second week of June has kinda been my beginning of good walleye action. But runoff has usually dropped off a bit and the temps are rising towards 65. This year the prime conditions have been delayed by all of the later snow runoff so it might be a couple of weeks before prime time. But I really wanna get over there and test that theory.

[#0000FF]Once the smallies move in to the shoreline they can be found anywhere there are rocks...and that is almost everywhere around the lake. There are good bank tangler access spots in Indian Bay, at Juniper Point and at Knight Hollow.[/#0000FF]

[#0000FF]Problem is that most of the stuff you throw for smallies is just as likely to be snarfed by walleyes. Silly fish don't always follow directions.

Well, walleyes are on my must-catch list, too. In fact I might get to do the WWW--Willard walleyes and wipers.

[#0000FF]I'll PM you when I next plan a trip. But I usually like to avoid Fridays. They seem to be the new Saturday.

[#0000FF]Good luck. Hope the runoff slows down soon and the water temps get back up to fish comfort range.

Then I guess I will have to play hooky from work when you come out this way.
