I took my tube and headed to LC on Thursday. I hadn't been up there since 2017 so I was excited to fish it again.
I got there about 7:30 and parked on the hill and packed my tube down to launch across from the point in the dam cove. I fished from 8:00 until 4:00 using several different flies along with my #8 sinking line. The flies that worked the best were a size 6 bead head white crystal bugger, a size 6 bead head plum leech, and a size 8 bead head green meanie (a Tube Dude pattern). I caught almost an even mix of rainbows and cutthroats, all between 13" and 16" long.
The water temperature was 50 degrees all day and the visibility in the water was about 8'. The reservoir level is at 74% and stable.
The air temperature was 26 degrees when I got there and 60 degrees when I left. It was nice and calm until about 11:00 and then the wind started up and just kept getting worse.
There were five boats on the water while I was there (two that either didn't know or didn't care about the wakeless rule).[:/] There were also about a dozen shore anglers. I talked with one of the boaters that were trolling and they had caught three fish, all cutthroats in about three hours of fishing.
It wasn't fast fishing but it was steady and it was nice to get back after the two year break.
The road up is so nice now. You can actually watch for wildlife while your driving instead of potholes.[] It's just too bad they couldn't have done the bypass road around Croydon.
