Oregon Fishing Update
#1
The Guide's Forecast - volume 3 issue number 45
Northwest Oregon's most complete and accurate fishing forecast

Forecasting for the fishing week of April 5th - April 11th, 2002

Fisheries update: The Columbia had a great week last week. Most of the action came from the lower river but fish were taken up to Bonneville Dam. The tides will wane this week and the rain may come as well making weekend fishing questionable. The peak is not far though so chances are good.
The Willamette continues its hit and miss status but it should get a bit more consistent this week. Oregon City has always produced the best catches (and the best crowds). The Santiams experienced a bit of a lull but that will likely change by the weekend as well. Only a few springers have trickled over the falls- probably to escape the sea-lions!
The Clackamas and Sandy also are putting out steelhead of which about every other one is a summer run. No springers, no smelt so quit waiting! The north coast is finally drying out and so is the steelhead action but if rain comes our way, April steelheading will not only get productive again, but crowds will be few as we all have springers on the brain!
Springers on the Umpqua and steelhead on the Siuslaw. The lower Rogue is seeing some good numbers of spring chinook now. Another one to watch and let the weather dictate the weekend option. Offshore bottom fishing is excellent.
The Deschutes River is very good for redsides on flies and opens Saturday for springers. Crabbing will be best in Yaquine Bay this weekend during the mild tides. Devil's Lake, Willamina, Canby and St. Louis Pond sand Detroit Reservoir will be planted this week. A number of questions have come in about fishing from Oregon's ocean beaches.
Watch next week for the Surf Perch Primer in the subscription version of TGF. Where, when and how!
Soapbox update: Help save the north coast hatcheries! Donate money and a time commitment to the broodstock programs through the dedicated group of Tillamook Anglers. Make checks payable to Tillamook Anglers at 7510 Trask River Road, Tillamook, OR. 97141.

You can email Jerry Dove at: jdovetillanglers@tilanet.com or call (503) 842-6519. These folks are also responsible for a significant portion of your hatchery spring chinook on Tillamook Bay. A great group to support!

Always more at http://www.theguidesforecast.com

Get more Oregon fishing information at
http://www.theguidesforecast.com
