Decided to hit the lake again for kokes after last weeks good action. Well the kokes humbled us today. Tough time locating Kokes. Covered a lot of water and moved a couple times then finally after about 4 hours found Kokes and caught a couple pretty quick then just hits, misses, follows but no more Kokes! Got 2 bows and 6 cutts. 30-40 feet seemed to be were they were holding found some good schools but for us today they were finicky! Better luck next time !

Thanks for the report. Any idea on water temp? A warm day today might have sent them down deeper.

Whacked them a week ago. They were not in the same spot. I found them on live scope, but in another area, so I knew the depths they were holding. I also looked and tried shallow as well as deeper, but other than the 2 caught at 35 only a couple other hits or misses, quite a few follows. Water temp by end of day was about 49 at surface warmer than a week ago but I would guess only the top few feet that warm. I think it also may have been a timing thing. Last trip action was 11-1 we limited . This trip didn’t find them till 1, I think
They may have been more active early? Other anglers may’s have gotten them only saw a couple others caught. But they nave have done well early and left. Oh well that’s fishing!

I like early but have caught as many at 10-2 at jordy, berry, gorge, and other unnamed waters in state and out.
The other day as mentioned we got 4 doubles and landed 9 lost 3, all were from 11-1pm when we quit with our limits. We started at 8am, Go figure!
About 5 years ago hit strawberry with 3 buddies, we launched in “dark” got 4 limits and was having brunch in SLC by 10am
So I Went up the next day (convinced we needed to get there early!!) with a couple other buddies. We launched at first light same spot marked fish , same gear NADA!!
We Fished until 11 am not a single koke and just a couple cutts , my buddies dad starts razzing me, sure you got them yesterday, ?, he had seen the pics! He was just being an $@&! I said well we are done at 12 if nothing happens.
15 minutes later we get first fish, we put 12 in boat and we’re done at 1:15?? Same area same gear?? Just like a switch got flipped!! Totally different timing 1 day apart!! That’s fishing!!
I know guys at the gorge swear it’s only good early , but then find out that’s the only time they try for kokes and usually have limits early so they quit, never try later. Only fished the gorge last years for kokes one trip. Got limits all three days, we only fished mid morning and afternoon??

We had the same exact experience. Last Saturday it was hot at first light, then at 11 we cranked them out again. We were there today, couldn’t find them is the same groups and area. Struggled to get a couple to the boat. Pretty strange.

Crazy when we did find them and caught the 2 fast , I marked big schools of kokes but they seemed to be on the move? I would circle around and not see them again then a while later a good ways away I
Marked other schools? Possibly same school just moving? Usually if I find them I catch them pretty good. They won the battle last time for sure. That’s what makes it fun, trying to figure them out!
