Tough day at Willard yesterday
#1
Got to post the good and the bad. Hit Willard yesterday, we got in the water about 9 am . The wind started to pick up more than forecast, took some waves over bow and had to drop electric to lowest position to keep it from cavitation and coming out of the water. Started with BB and spinner rigs. Hooked first fish in 5 minutes. Lost it, a decent walleye at the boat. Maybe that was an omen? Tried several spots that have usually been productive in the past, after a while the wind settled to a more reasonable chop. Conditions seemed great . Water temp 57 and was about 59 when we left after only one more small walleye and I small wiper, with several location moves we switched to crank baits. Crank baits did better for us but nothing great. Lots of color and size changes and various speeds and depths we scratched out 5 more walleyes and 1 small wiper. We tried long lines, snap weights, lots of colors and style options , even downrigger (got one on rigger) We marked quite a few fish I figured were walleye, but nothing we did seemed to entice much action. I’m blaming the changes in weather and guessing it will “turn” on in the next good day I can’t go!? plan to get back up there soon for better success.
Good luck

Seems like Willard is particularly weather sensitive. At least you got out and caught a few. Hopefully some nicer weather turns things back on up there.

One member sent me a text yesterday, that he had caught his PB eye at 27", so it's all about location I guess. Hopefully he will chime in, I'm not sure what his overall success was but a 27" eye, is a great one for Willard.

Yes, I heard about that one, great walleye anywhere. Excellent Willard walleye for sure. I wonder if he had luck on many more, not a lot of boats out there yesterday. Didn’t talk to anyone, most boats seemed to be moving around a lot like we did. Got enough fish for some good dinners , but we worked hard for the Few we got, still a good day on the water.

He really didn't say anything about how many he caught, other than that one, so he might not have done any better than you did.

Thanks for update, looks like several out today , hopefully we will see reports of it improving from what we experienced . Water temps should be climbing back up to where they were, which should help as well as more stable weather.

We ended up with 3 eyes and 1 wiper. Compared to last week it was a big let down but that's fishing.
