I did a solo run up to Lost Creek last evening. I didn't arrive until after 6 and was fishing by around 630. Water levels are still pretty good, about 15 ft from full. No courtesy ramp, just small dock in the water close to the ramp.
Dropped first line and was hooked up before I could bait the second line, less than 30 seconds. Used dodger/squid combos and fish were down 30 to 45 ft. Lots of small cutts, a few rainbows, and one splake. 2 small kokes, but they were only about 8 inches. A few trout were in the slot, but nothing over 16.5." Fishing was fast and I realized that i really need to invest in some electric downriggers. Conservative estimate of around 25 caught and released.
When it started getting dark I switched over to pulling some big lures hoping to get a slot buster. I fished until way after dark, hoping for a big one but no hits on the big stuff.
Going late was good for seeing lots of wildlife. A bald Eagle, osprey, blue heron, kingfishers, ducks, a flock of chukars flew down to drink, several deer down drinking about dusk. An owl outlined in a tree after dusk and numerous bats over the water. On the way out 3 raccoons in the road, a momma and 2 babies.
They are doing lots of construction below the dam. They had a foundation poured for a small building, had taken out the toll booth, grading all over down in the trees. Temporary toll booth is now at the top of the dam now. Still no improvements to the boat launch area.
