Hopefully Shunkedagain will see this or one of the other guys that live up in Cache valley, because they can give you a better answer than me. My limited experience in fishing Cutler says you will be fine up there in your boat but in any lake you need to be careful on your first trip out until you become familiar with the area and the shallow spots. As far as what to fish for there, they have a wide variety of fish in there, crappie, cats, walleye, bluegill, of course carp, and I think trout and perch, hopefully the other guys can give you a better list. When we fished there we bait fished but I'm pretty sure you could bottom bounce worm harnesses, once you learn the lake. Trolling, not so sure about that but I'm sure Jeff can give you some better info. Good luck Scott.

Hey Scott, Probably better to give you a call sometime for all the questions I'll send you my number on a PM... But just a few things I can provide... First, I think your boat will be okay... I have an older version of the same boat and I get along okay, I do have a dinged up prop from right there at the Benson marina boat launch, I caught a rock or something... Overall the water level is very shallow, but my boat seems to work okay in it... I fish mostly for Channels and smallies. I do catch some crappie, gills and LMB... Once in awhile I find a walleye, but they are sort of rare for me... Lots of carp and bullheads if you want to fish for them... Rarely I've seen perch and trout caught from the pond... They just planted tiger muskie, so that will be a new one to play with, it's a fun pond with lots of potential, but it takes a lot of patience to learn it due to shallow water it's kind of difficult to find the fish holding areas that are consistent... I used to troll for channel cats and that was really fun, but this time of year the seaweed grows up in the shallows and makes it hard to troll. But fall and spring it works pretty well... It was actually better from my pontoon that the boat, but I get lazy lately and just fish the boat... Anyway there's a little start and you can ask others on the call... Good luck and why the new interest in "Cutler, did you move up this way? Later Jeff
When things get stressful think I'll go fish'en and worry about it tomorrow!

Back in the day, when we use to do the Floattilla up there, a few of us got to know the lake a little and a few of us found those shallow spots, I even had to jump out of the boat once and push it off a sand bar. Down lake, toward the dam was much easier but not as many fish there imo. It was really cool launching at that upper end and floating down that section. Those were good times.

That was some fun trips, I used to really enjoy that format of the flotilla... Was fun to do the other ones as well, but I really liked it when we seen new waters and fished them... Guess we ought to try to figure out a fall fling for those of us that aren't hunting all fall.... I'll try to keep that in mind and when we get the farm settled down I'll try to look into setting something up... Maybe even a Cutler float like before... Later Jeff
If Pineview wasn't so expensive we could try the fall crappie fun up there...

Just a quick note from me. West of Muddy Road outfitters there is an old fence line that runs east to west, I always stay on the west side going through there.

Hey Rod, have you noticed how much that island from the east has crept out into the middle in that area? Seems like it's changed a bunch in that area to me this year.. Also south of that area there is group of four islands that used to have bullrushes on them, but now only a few show up anymore and some islands are submerged so you don't see them, but it's really shallow there so you would hit bottom, so stay west in that area as well... Probably 50 to 150 yards off the west shore is best, if it get's too shallow go east a little more... Later J

Later J Ya Jeff I've noticed all of those little islands in the middle are growing bigger, and I'm surprised they don't have the reeds on them. The best thing to do is go slow until you figure out where the safe paths are. |
