I wanted to try using some carp cutbait for cats on the Jordan tonight. I usually fish with liver but I wanted to try something else.Is it ok if the carp is freezer burnt or anything?Or does any one dip the cutbait in garlic or wd40 or leave the cutbait in the sun for a couple days?whats the best way to fish for cats with cutbait?

I've caught cats on 5 year old carp. Just put it on, and heave it out like the livers. I'd recomend sucker if you can manage it. Last year I caught 10 times more channels with sucker than carp.

It really doesn't matter if it's freezer burned. Some people will say it's best if you let it rot first, some say add this or that. Some say just use it fresh. Cats eat just about anything. I personally prefer fresh carp meat or frozen, but not letting it rot or anything. I catch just as many and it doesn't make me pass out when I bait up my hooks.

when it comes to carp meat it doesnt seem to matter to the fish... its all how you like it, fresh, stinky, but i do think that a little sweetner does help. i use some home made blood dip bait that i use. i just get a pickle jar and fill it with all of the exess carp guts and other carp stuff that i dont use and i let it sit in the garage all summer. after a few weeks it turns into a goooey syrup. dip your meat into that. works great.

WHAT ABOUT THE OLD TIMERS TRICK, CUT A HUNK OFF AN IVORY BAR OF SOAP, OR GET THE OLD BAZOOKA BUBBLE GUM CHEW IT HALF WAY SO ITS STILL STICKY AND WRAP IT ON A HOOK, I HAVE ALSO HEARD ABOUT WD-40, SPONGE DIPPED IN DOG POO, AND ONE MORE I CANT RECALL AT THIS TIME....BUT IT WAS FOUL.....IT WAS SOMETHING YOU MAKE UP AND THEN LITERALLY BURY FOR 2 MONTHS AND THEN DIG IT UP AND USE IT FOR BAIT.....KINDA LIKE FISHHEAD BREW FOR YOUR MOONSHINE PLEASURE. BUT THE SOAP AND BUBBLE GUM IS WHAT I WOULD HAVE AN INKLING TO USE FIRST....MY WIFE SAYS I STINK ENOUGH WITHOUT USING ALL THE SMELLY STUFF FOR BAIT. I DONT KNOW WHAT SHE MEANS BY THAT. Thats pretty nasty[cool] I've use chicken liver that sat in the container with the lid on out in the hot summer sun for three weeks.Man that SMELL! The smell stayed on my hands for like two days.I caught more cats on the fresh liver than the rotten.

i have used carp for cats in the past but only when there was no other bait around or it was fresh cought on the spot.. i have found that chub or sucker work a lot better then carp.. one of the biggest cats i've cought in Utah was on a red side shiner tho.. down at gunson res.. it went 28.6 lbs.. that was right befor the great crash of 1988.. after that any thing over 2 lbs was doing good.. so we started hit the sevier river for cats in the 10 to 15 lbs class but i dont think that they are around any more ether.. the carp have over run just about every thing in the whole water sistem.. any way the way i would use the chub and sucker is put them out the morning i'm going fishing in the sun by the time the sun was going down they would be smelling just right (want to make you puke every time you opened the bag) cut some off and use a big hook like 03 or 04 bait holder put a 4" to 5" long 1" wide chunck on and have at it.. the big bait and hook keeps the smaller mud cat off and smaller chanels off to..
