well i got home from otter creek late last night. it is a long drive from salt lake. ouch!!!!!!!!!!! it has been a while since i have been there. i remember the days of going down there and catchin 20 to 40 3 to 6 pound rainbows. i guess yesterday was not my day. i was in my pontoon all day. i was casting rapalas tube jigs and curl tail jigs krockidiles and spinners to the shore line and gravel beds. i caught a small rainbow on a palla. and my dad caught a 4 pounder on a tube. he had 3 other hits i had one but nothing else landed. so we tried to salvage the day and hit some spots on the siever river. i think maybe the guys who were talking about the mud slide in piute were pulling our legs. there is no way piute is a mud hole. we stopped at the spill way below the dam of piute and did rather well for the two hours we were there. they were letting a lot of water out but it was all clear. alot clearer than otter creek. piute has an open way spill way system. the dam actually sucks water from a top water valve. the valve is plenty big enough for fish to get sucked in. and they always do. the spill way was chuck full of nice rainbows. these rainbow were sucked out of piute via the spill way. we would have fished otter creek but we were detered by the discusion of it being a mud hole. if it is true that piute was poison and restocked last year it is an amazing lake. the fish we caught were all almost 2 pounds. if they grow that much in one years time with muddy condition boy that is the place to be. thats where the biggn are. piute was a lot clearer than otter creek. otter creek is awesome right when the ice comes off. when the water is still clear. any distillment throws it out of wack. that is why fishing was not good this weekend. piute was clear though.
