I fished Scofield for one last time through the ice yesterday. The weather was awesome, and so was the fishing. I fished in the dam inlet near the boat ramp and caught fish all day long. I had to go home because I ran out of meal worms. Fished with a small pearly white tube jig tipped with a meal worm in about 13 feet of water. The fish were suspended anywhere from 5 to 10 feet. I don't think I went more than 5 minutes without a bite all day. I probably caught at least 30 fish - most were in the 12-14 inch range, but I kept three that were over 20 inches for the barbeque.
Anyway, the ice is soft on top, but there is still plenty of ice left under that. The problem is getting on and off. Make sure you take a plank if you go (8-10 feet if you have one) and try to find a bank where the snow hasn't melted yet. I got a little wet doing the flying Wilma to get off the ice yesterday afternoon because I didn't have a plank. It was worth it though...
