I've never fished for walleye and I hear of people catching them up here in Cache Valley? Where? How? and what would you fish?

The guys in Cache Valley unbelieveably quiet about this one! But I'm sick of secrets and I will say the anglers were really putting the hurt on the walleyes this spring. It was about 3 weeks ago though and I'm not sure how it is right now. It was very early by anyone's standards, but the fish were active. I spoke with some guys in Idaho and the hot spot is right on the Bear R. just north of the Utah state line. The conservation officer up there was really checking the Utah people for licenses since it is literally just a few hundred feet north of the Utah state line. You must have an ID license to fish there. Come on guys, share some secrets now that the cat is out of the bag!

Do you know what they were getting them on? I have a liscence and would really like to try it...but I don't have a clue what to use or where to go or even how to fish them. Any ideas? I caught one when I was little on accident while fishing for carp. That's all I know.

I know that there are walleyes on the Utah Side of the line on the Bear River. My sister caught the first one that I know of personally. That was about 30 years ago. My 13 year old caught one last summer. My Dad has caught several big ones. He has one on his wall that is 8 lbs. He will catch several every summer. He also catches some nice cats up to 6 lbs.

Most all of these fish have been caught on a night crawler. A couple that my dad caught were on a Sassy Shad or a minnow type lure. Chartreuse or black and silver are the colors he uses. For the catfish he uses chicken liver or carp. He has not caught any yet this year.

He fishes about the same time every day but only for about an hour. If he catches fish, great if not he will try again the next day. Depending on the time of the year, he may fish in the morning, afternoon or evening.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help on this. I really haven't fished the Bear or Lower Logan for years.
