Utah Lake Guide Request

AnglerDan and I are interested in having somone teach us Utah Lake. I have a bass boat but need a guide for what appears to be a great lake to fish if you know how to get around without busting one thing or another in the shallow areas.

hi mike i don't think you even need a boat to catch some nice bass at utah lake i caught several last year just fishing AFBH and LBH from the bank the trick is fishing parall and tight to the bank try plastic worms and spinnerbaits in dark colors and bronze blades

i would say most of the bass i caught went about 16" a couple went 19" my biggest went 21" all caught in the harbors also the fish should be going on there spawning beds right about now so they will be in shallow

the walleye i'm not so sure about if they are still spawning like they were a couple of weeks ago look for them rolling next to the dikes you will see 2 males and a female together throw a grub were you see them rolling early morn late eve are your best bets good luck when you go

Get a plastic map, it's worth it.

Your best bet for large mouth is to fish in and around all the harbors, saratoga is a very good harbor but you need a boat to get in to that one. It's a privete marina but you can inter with a boat, there's a hot spring in there and alot of bass hang out in there. the walleye right now are in post spawn in most of the lake, I herd thry were still going at provo marina and some were being caught on the south dike. hope this helps. later chuck

I was going to head up to Jordanelle on Friday with AnglerDan, but maybe I will hit Utah Lake instead.... Have to keep my eyes peeled looking for sand bars. Thank you for the information Chuck

The harbors are the place to be for Bass. A boat is probably a good idea since you can travel from one harbor to another easily and hit the private harbors also. You'll also be able to fish the entire harbor and not limited to one shoreline only like in AMF. Durring the Bass tournaments on UT Lake you'll see the harbors full of bass boats and rarely anyone fishing outside the harbors.

Fished It with Chris before and he showed me how to get into them. Listen to his advice he knows what he's talking about. Tight to shore within a foot or two of the shoreline. Dark colored "noisie" baits fished real slow. Zipper worms are perfect.

I'm almost willing to say that 90% of the bass are in the harbors...I know a few spots outside that'll hold fish at times...but the harbors are key on this lake...Chuck and I have wasted countless hours pre-fishing outside of the harbors trying to find fish...lol

Give me time to get back from Afghanistan ... Late June ... I will put you on to some big Utah Lake LMB. It's like my backyard and have taught several guys howto catch them there. From rod selections to lure selection. I can give you a small learning curve.

Chuck & Aquaman also have cut there teeth there. I would be happy to take you out when I get back!

Try a jig-n-pig, black and blue jig with a dark green pig (trailer) and fish with in inches of the bank. some times casting on the bank and draging it in the water. also cast right in the cat tails, the fish will hold tight to the cover, I have caught sevral bass doing the yo-yo'ing over a branch that sticks off shore. when the presure is heavy go to a smaller version of jigs even a 4in. worm. senkos work great also. tube jigs are another good jig choice. hope this helps later chuck

Hey Chucky, Have you been able to get into Saratoga harbor this spring yet? Enough water there now to slip in and out?

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I got a plastic map and it does help with the shallow water. I didn't know just how many hazards there were until I got the map, especially around Bird Island.

I dont know about water levels, but I have fished a ton from shore for lmb at utah lake. I would love to go out on a boat. I could give you a bunch of tips for getting on fish.
