I know it is all artificial and you have to release all cutthroat, can you keep other species, and can you use a float tube or pontoon boat?
Thanks, for the information

you can keep any other species ( brooks browns and bows ) and you can take a toon or tube on the water but you must have waders as it is a water shed

This is right out of the 2003 fishing proclamation. Little Dell is catch and release only to all types of fish.

Note: Little Dell Reservoir is managed by the Salt Lake Public Utilities Department. Access to Little Dell Reservoir is CLOSED November 1 through March 31. Access is open during daylight hours only from April 1 through October 31. [/li][/ul]

You can keep other species there now but I wouldn't keep anything other than a Rainbow if I caught it. There aren't that many places that grow 20+ inch Brook Trout like the one Chris caught and it would be a shame if they got fished out.

Apparently there was a problem with the initial version of the proclamation because the version that is on-line at the DWR website, and the version that I picked up recently at the DWR offices, both state that the reservoir is "artificial flies and lures only," "closed to the possession of cutthroat trout" and "all cutthroat trout must be immediately released." After that, the general regulations apply.

If you look at the Internet version of the proc it says that only cutts must be immediately released.

hey norm didn't mean to be rude and not invite you along its just i don't invite anyone along been getting really mixed signals up there from the sheriffs they just greet me and ask how the fishing is but i talked to a buddy who was up there last week and they threatened him with a ticket until he pointed out the proc shows a opening date of 4/1 so i don't want to be responsible for getting a buddy a ticket i think i'm going back up thursday about 10 AM if anyone want to come along just remember you do this of your free will and if you get a ticket don't blame me weather report calls for snow and wind should be a blast
must say the lure i got from you worked great tied it on and never took it off

Just wanted to say that I totally agree with you, concerning the brookies fishmagnet. If you want some great tasting trout go to the berry and catch some cutts. I really think they should make brookies a non harvastable fish up at the dell. They're just an amazing fish we see all to little of at that 20" plus range.I think we need to do what we can to keep those big boys where they belong, in the dell.
Just my two sense. But what do I know?

2004 fishing proclamation does say only cutts can not be kept. Sorry I was only a year behind. Does anyone know why they wont let you keep the cutts? I had heard that it was catch and release only because the water department was woried water quality with people cleaning fish and then leaving parts behind. But now they let you keep the rainbows and brookies. I understand keeping the rainbows so they wont cross with the cutts. Any chance of a over 24" cutt or brookie one fish limit and 4 limit rainbow? Since there is no reason not to have the lake totaly catch and realease.

That lake is used as a egg production and gathering facility for stocking of hatcheries. They put fish traps in the inlet every year to gather fish and eggs. Healthy cutts for other trout ponds is the result.

Funny you mention that Norm. I was going to head out there today. I have a buddy that is always down at bountiful pond and he wants some for bait as well I was thinking of heading out there around 4:30 or 5.
