Conservation Landscaping Class Set for Bismarck
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department's outreach section is presenting a conservation landscaping class on two dates in May. The class will be offered Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday, May 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the department's main office in Bismarck.

The instruction is intended to provide homeowners and rural landowners with information on how to plant native grasses and wildflowers, according to Chris Grondahl, outreach supervisor. "This is a money-saving and conservation-minded alternative to mowing and watering Kentucky bluegrass lawns, as well as adding aesthetic beauty and habitat for wildlife," Grondahl said.

Topics include developing a base map of the area to be landscaped; drawing a conservation plan; choosing the right plant materials; planting and maintaining the landscape; and finding places to purchase plants and other resources.

Presenting the class is Barbara Price, who has more than 20 years of experience in landscape design in Washington, Oregon and North Dakota. Price has a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture and a master's degree in horticulture.

The class is free and limited to 40 participants for each class. Pre-registration is required by calling 701-328-6615. Participants are encouraged to bring photos of the area they would like to landscape.[/url]
