Creel Survey Being Conducted at Devils Lake
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is conducting a creel survey at Devils Lake that will continue through March 2005.

The creel survey started in early April, and is currently focused on Mauvais Coulee and Channel A, according to Randy Hiltner, fisheries biologist. "In years when there is a lot of current, such as this year, fish tend to concentrate in these areas," Hiltner said. "Angling use has been heavy in this area this spring, especially Channel A."

As fishing season progresses, the creel clerk will interview anglers at many different sites on Devils Lake, thus providing biologists will data from a broad area, Hiltner said.

Creel survey information is useful in assessing angler demographics, harvest and catch rates, catch-and-release information, and angling effort. Anglers are asked to cooperate with creel clerks, and answer questions honestly, as interviews take only a few minutes.[/url]
