Mantua report 5-8
#1
Fished Mantua this morning. Tried a few lures for a while with nothing. Then talked to a guy who had caught a few nice bass. He was using a black rubber worm. Threw a worm on my hook and within a half hour I had four bass caught with two being over a pound. Let all of the fish go. Probably going back tomorrow to try again.

Caught all of the fish on shore. Few others started using a rubber worm, all having some kind of success.

Good Luck

It just made me think of a conversation I was having with a good friend of mine last week that had just come back from fishing Mantua. He was telling me that he couldn't see why everyone kept going on about how hard it is to get into the fish this year. He said he was doing quite well. When I asked him what he was using he responded...."A whole night crawler with a little BB sinker" [shocked] I quickly informed him of his error and he felt pretty stupid.

Ya gots ta be careful at Mantua. I got checked there last week, and technically, you're not even supposed to have bait with you when you fish there.
But apparently they're going to remove the artificial only restriction next year, because of the perch.

I fished Mantua Saturday morning also. We didn't catch any fish and I only saw one small one caught on the nrth side. I was pretty disgusted and wondered why I keep going back there. One angler launching his boat at the same time as us said he helped the DWR do gill net surveys there last week and there were some ten pound trout in the nets. I thought we could at least catch some bluegill, but they were even elusive. Some people were fishing out in the middle rather than the east shoreline. Were they trying for the trout, or bass? I am about to give up the faith on Mantua. Any ideas or suggestions for me would be appreciated. Acey

I was wondering what the limits are for different species of fish at Mantua. I havent ever fished there but was thinking of giving it a try next weekend.
