West Beach - Halibut - May 8, 2002
#1
Float tubed West Beach in Santa Barbara this afternoon from 5:00 - 8:30. Started just to the west of Stearn's Wharf and picked up 3 short halibut to 21 inches. 2 were caught on the Excalibur Long A and the other (the 21 incher) was caught on a 5" Silver Sardine Big Hammer on a 1/2 oz. Super Shad Head. Around 6:00 I moved to the other side of the wharf and got into a nice steady pick of 7 more fish with two legals (24 and 22 inches). All of the fish except for the 22 incher were caught on 3 inch Mackerel and Calico Hunter II colored Big Hammers on 3/16 oz. Assalt Darter Heads. The 22 incher was caught on a Rebel Minnow. When the 24 inch struck about three dozen small baitfish (about 2 or 3 inches long) came flying out of the water - match the hatch? Also caught a small perch on the 3 inch Hammer.
Tried for seabass around the receiver for about an hour after sunset for nothing.

Mackerel colored Big Hammer

Calico Hunter II colored Big Hammer

Silver Sardine colored Big Hammer

**********

You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today, please practice catch and release.
