Here's an interesting article about some of Utahs biggest (private) water users. http://www.sltrib.com/2004/May/05302004/utah/171129.asp

It has got to be embarrassing to those folks to have their names published in the newspaper.

everyone one of my neighbors have the sprinklers running every day. All their yards are so green it almost makes your eyes hurt. Yes its nice to look at, but i don't understand them at all. I guess all the lakes/reservoirs will have to be empty before some people get a clue!

The water usage propaganda fails to mention how much water farmers use. I dont condone the usage of the people named in the article but at least a 40,000 sq ft home produces huge property tax. When a farm uses 3 times as much water with a tiny fraction of the tax. Most of this talk of water shortage blamed on home owners I believe is to prepare the public to get used to pay full price for are water wich is currently subsidized by the gov. Farm land out west has been converted into subdiviosions wich use less per acre than the farm before. depending on the crop of coarse. The diffrence is farmers have a powerfull lobby. Home owners do not in that regaurd.
