My new best bass ever
#1
I hit Willard Friday evening June 4th with my son, Nathan. We fished without any hits for a long time and towards late evening a friend fishing nearby recommended we troll olong the west dike with shad rapalas to pick up a wiper. We did as Darren recommended and we hadn't trolled more than another hundred yards when a nice wiper hit the rapala bouncing along the bottom. I haven't had a fish fight that hard or strip out line like that in a long time. When we finally got him in the net we couldn't believe how large he was. Our little hand held scale went over 7 pounds and it was 22 and a half inches long.

After fishing until after dark with no more fish caught we headed for the boat dock. Meeting Darren again he said we should get the fish weighed on a certified scale for laughs and giggles to see if it was a new state record. We weighed the fish at Smith's in Brigham City on the meat department scale and it then weighed 6 lbs. and 9 oz. about two and a half hours after it was caught. We kept it in the water, but I wonder if it could have been a new state record which is 6 lbs. and 11 oz. in the 2004 proclamation. Not too bad for my first trip to Willard this year. I definitely plan to go back again. Darren caught some nice wipers and walleye trolling around the north dike area also. I will post a picture here. Acey

Congratulations on the wiper. I wouldn’t be surprised if it would have been the new state record if you had it weighed immediately instead of waiting a couple of hours.
