Boston Harbor & South Shore Striper-6/8/02
#1
BOSTON HARBOR & SOUTH SHORE-Stripers June 8

Bass fishing continues to get better and better as the season progresses. However, the weekend’s passing low and resulting wind made fly casting difficult. Nevertheless, two groups toughed out the conditions Saturday in Boston harbor. Tom Keer’s epoxy-head herring pattern with a Ray’s fly dropper proved to be the best producer while pearl shad rubber-baits and pearl-color slug-gos worked well on light-spinning gear. A big school of mixed school and keeper bass has been feeding on the mackerel off the outer-Harbor. Sea conditions prevented looking for these fish on Saturday.

Sunday’s group, Tom Freda and friend Tim from Hingham, MA, had good fishing in the inner-harbor at first light. Bass were feeding on herring as the tide started to flood in. Herring patterns and pearl sassy-shads accounted for a good number of stripers between 20 and 27 inches. The morning surface activity was very short lived. Moving to the flats in Quincy Bay, the anglers cast surface presentations raising bass in 8 to 12 feet of water. White slug-gos on spinning gear and sliders and gurglers on Fly gear brought the fish up. Again, numerous 20 to 27 bass and one keeper of 30 inches took the surface presentations Cold air and water temps definitely put the fish down and slowed the fishing on the weekend.

Capt.
