A fellow employee of mine will be on a cruise to Alaska beginning tomorrow. He has the choice of fishing for one day either in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway or Sitka. He is not an experienced fisherman, and I'm sure would enjoy fishing the place that he is the most likely to catch some nice fish not necessarily a certain species. He has sought my input. I have never fished in Alaska. Any input on the best place of the four to fish out of would be appreciated.

[cool][blue]Ketchikan is the best fishing location. Right on the inland passage, protected from most severe weather, and a major fishery location for both commercial and sport fishing. Lots of guides and boats.[/blue]
[#0000ff]Right in the middle of salmon going upstream to spawn now. Tons of sockeyes, pinks and some silvers and chinooks.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Out in the bay, try for halibut. They are also at their peak right now...up to 300 pounds or more.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Put Alaska Fishing into any browser and you will have enough to keep you busy for a week. Shorten it to Ketchikan and there are still a whole lot of outfitters and info on the local fishing. Here's a good one that lists species and prime seasons for each. As you can see, this is a good time to go.[/#0000ff]

this looks like a cruise identical to the one i took. having been to those areas but not fished them i cant help. i do remember that skagway had some guides there and was less popular of a fishing destination. didnt have commercial boats everywhere you look. juneau on the other hand was chock a block full of fishing boats. sitka is the same way but more a touristy town. by appearance i would recommended skagway. the chilcut river runs right through there with major salmon runs up it. we took a boat ride down it and was cool to watch all the "dog" salmon running up the river.

I think TD is right, my last trip to Alaska was by the inland sea. All I heard along the way was "Ketchikan is the best place to fish". I've been to all the places you listed but have only fished in Juneau and Skagway, I would say any where in Alaska would be good fishing. WH2
