Uintah suggestions?? taking my boy fishing....
#1
I want to take my 4 year old boy on a fishing trip this coming weekend up to the Uintahs, my dad used to take me up there when I was younger, those are some of the best memories I have with my dad, my parents got divorced when me and my brother was around 10 and 12, so it has been a long time since I have been up there fishing, I want to take him to a lake that is well stocked, somewhere he can float a bobber and catch planters all day long and have a blast, any suggestions as to where I can take him? I snowmobile all winter long up there but I haven't been up there in the summer for over 10 years. would mirror lake be a good place to take him to?

What age does he require a license?

Any of the roadside lakes should provide some good action. Check the DWR website for stocking info and go right after they have stocked it for the best action. The age cut off is 14.

Pass Lake, on the Evanston side of Mirror Lake and right on the highway, is an excellent choice for you and 4 year old son. If you want to drive a little more, Little Lyman Lake is phenomenal right now. Dozens of 6-12 inchers can be had on worms or virtually anything else. It is a little ways in off of the Bear River Service location back into Utah from Evanston. The actual road goes to the East Fork of the Bear, the Boy Scout camp that burned up and the Hill AFB Camp. Go up and over Elizabeth Pass and keep following along. There is a Nat'l. Forest campground at Little Lyman. Big Lyman is next to it and has larger fish; I doubt if it is stocked on a regular basis. GOOD LUCK!!!!

I was up to Whitney Res. last weekend and had no problem catching fish from the shore. To get to Whitney go about 3-4 miles south of Bear River Service and head west at the sign. There's about 7 miles of good graded road to Whitney. It is a little more isolated than the lakes along the highway and is in a beautiful valley that usually gives you a look at a moose and a few deer as well as some nice camping areas. Good luck, wherever you go.

My favorite go-to lake for that kind of action is Smith & Morehouse. The drive is about 1.5 hours from Ogden and LOTS of things to see on the way and beautiful vistas. If you decide to go somewhere else, do try to get there some other time.

There is a link for directions over on the "Utah Fishing Holes" board:

Let us know how you do when you get back. It's always great to read reports on waters that are seldom discussed on this board.
