TANGIER SOUND:
Fishermen are reporting large schools of small bluefish throughout the region. Most are snapper-sized blues and are being caught by casting to breaking schools or as an incidental catch while bottom fishing. The flounder fishing in the sound region up to Fishing Bay has been the best seen in many years. Squid, spot strips, silversides and minnows have all proven to be good producers when fished on hard bottom shoal areas or channel edges. Croakers and spot are being caught in good numbers, mostly in deeper waters during the day and shallower depths at night. Sea trout are being caught here and there by fishermen while bottom fishing and larger ones by fishermen using peeler crab or soft plastics along sedges and creek mouths. Recreational crabbers continue to enjoy a wealth of crabs throughout the region along tidal creeks and shallow areas.

We have added a new link to some very valuable information for Chesapeake Bay Anglers. DNR's "Eyes on the Bay" website has data coming in from remote sensing stations in the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries. It is well worth checking this out. Click on the map below.
