Douglas Trap Netting Results - 2003
#1
935 black and 803 white crappie were netted in 89 trap net sets from October 21-29, 2003. The number of young crappie collected was higher than any previous sampling year and both species produced large year classes. This 2003 year class made up the largest percentage of both samples.
We had predicted the abundant rainfall received last spring would be good for crappie reproduction and the results of this years sampling adds strong support to our theory. Anglers will begin to catch the 2003 year class in late 2004 and they should reach 10-inches during 2005.
