"Venison Pastie"

by davetclown

this is much more easy than it sounds.

1 pound 1/4 inch diced or ground venison (if you use diced venison allow it to cook in the pot with other ingrediants to firm up for dicing)

1 large 1/4 inch diced sweet onion

1 lb of round sliced baby carrots

1 lb 1/4 inch diced potato

1/4 lb peas if desired (fresh or frozen not canned)

salt to taist

pepper to taist

garlic to taist

cheyane pepper to taist for those of us who like it hot

water

5 nine inch pie shells pre made from store and thawed will work fine

1 big stick cooking method. I use a slow crock pot to prepair [ol] [li]add antlered critter, spices, carrots, and onion [li]add water to just the level of ingrediants in pot [li]cook till antlered critter is tender [li]add diced potato and pea [li]cook till water is gone [li]allow to cool to room temp [li]fill one side of pie shell leafing enough room to fold over the other side to close [li]close pie shell by using a little water around the rim of the pie shell then crimp with a fork [li]bake for 30 minuts at 375 degrees if not frozen longer if you have frozen it for future use. untill crust is golden brown. [li]use big stick to chase off wolves who are hounding at the door from the aroma that will flow from your house for the next 12 hours.[/li][/ol]

when served brown gravey goes good over top

one pastie pie will feed two people

*** note I used a crock pot to cook with, this is my choice. you can do it much faster in conventional cook wear. but you cant match the flavor of slow cooking.

*** this will work for any antlered critter including mooo cow.
