Oregon Fishing Update
#1
Fisheries Update

August 23rd - August 29th, 2002

Hurry up! You know what's ahead! CLOSURE! It all begins on 8/24 going to a 2 salmon limit, of which only 1 may be a chinook. Action for Buoy 10 chinook is good for most but it is hard to be consistent. The Oregon and Washington sides are producing equal results for now. That could change any day. Ocean fishing remains open but check your regulations as it could close any time. Crabbing is showing signs of improvement.

Seasonal changes are discussed at length in The Guide's Forecast this week. Highlights include the early Fall chinook showing in the North Coast streams. While the Nestucca, Wilson and Trask Rivers are closed to chinook fishing until the 16th of September, Nehalem Bay anglers are finding a few daily at Wheeler and at the Jaws although fishing has stalled this week. Nehalem Bay is producing some decent Dungeness crab, however, and tides this weekend are favorable.

Chinook fishing remains open off the Oregon coast and remains very good for anglers trolling plug-cut herring behind divers.

While the Clackamas and Sandy Rivers are suffering seasonally and offer little promise, the North Santiam contains lots of bright steelhead although clear, lower water has created challenges with catching them. Besides trying first light, small baits and lures are recommended.

On the South Coast, chinook are being taken from the lower Coquille and Rogue Rivers but has slowed on the lower Umpqua. Steelhead fishing is fair on the Rogue and good on the Umpqua. Smallmouth bass fishing remains very good on the Umpqua River.

Scheduled for stocking this week are Estacada and Faraday Lakes and North Fork Reservoir.

Have this report e-mailed to you weekly or sign up for our full version with tips, forecasts, and professional guide's advice!
http://www.TheGuidesForecast.com/

Get more Oregon fishing information at
http://www.theguidesforecast.com

Looking forward to fishing in Oregon again this year. How is the salmon fishing in the Coos bay area? I fished there last year with a friend of mine who was born and raised in that part of the state. Fishing was great and we are looking to try again the last week in September. Any info you could provide would be great!
