Grantsville Browns
#1
Headed up to Grantsville Res. this morning in search for browns . Only hooked one about 24" male about 5 pounds and about a dozen bows all put back in the drink . One bow was a football about 15" but got camera shy and took off before I got a pic . Seen one boat lose one nice brown trying to net it . Got to love jig fishin' in a tube . Nice day on the water and a view of the mountains .

[cool]Nice Brownski, HA69. How long did you fish for out there, and what color was working today? I've gotta go try that place out from my tube sometime!

I fished from 8:00am to 4:00pm . White crappie tube jig is what I caught them on . Browns where biting when I got there but seem to have lock jaw the rest of the day .

This reservoir, just south of Grantsville, was formed by piling rock in a U-shape on a hillside. From a distance, it looks like a cattle pond but is actually much larger than it appears. Spring fishing can be quite good but it's main appeal is that it can be reached in half an hour from Salt Lake. This is one place you can actually sit in your car while you fish.
[Image: dot_clear.gif]Location: 35 mi. W of Salt Lake City, 2 mi. S of Grantsville. Take 2100 South Freeway to westbound I-80. Turn off at exit 99 to Tooele/Stansbury Park. Turn right to Grantsville just before you reach Stansbury Park. Drive through Grantsville to the last road to the left just before the turn past town. About 2 miles from town, take the first paved road to the right. Stay on the pavement and it will take you right up to the reservoir

Great pictures sounds like fun and close to home Smile Are the fish deep or close to the surface like Strawberry?

Are there any tributaries that feed this reservoir? Did you try looking there for the browns? Seems the browns are all making there way to the tribs for the spawning ritual early this year.

Fish were all up and down in the water . The browns I usually do better on bottom . But I have hooked them in the surface before .

Ice fishing can be good but sometimes it only ices up for 2 weeks and becomes unsafe . Last year it had some good ice , but I never went to try it .

Not much of a stream coming in . Water is piped in from the mountains down a concrete channel . They are building a fence to stop people from driving down to the water . Almost done too .
