strawberry question
#1
i was talkin to one of my customers today, who frequents strawberry, and they said they heard a 'rumor' that the slot may be lifted next year. Can ne1 confirm or deny? I'm typically not a rumor person..but it did tweak my curiousity

I don't know but I would doubt it. The way those new regs have turned that lake around is amazing, I was very pleased at the size and mustard those fish had last week. Plus, not everyone is following the current regs, but that happens everywhere. It would be stupid to change them back, but crazier things have happened.

[cool]Like icthys, I doubt it also. I haven't heard anything like that at all, and the new regs have really turned that lake around, and since it's by far the most heavily fished body of water in the state, I doubt it if you'd see the regs change. There are some great articles published on the state dwr website (www.wildlife.utah.gov/fishing) that talk about the amazing success the new regs have had with getting the number of larger Cutthroats up, and the chub numbers down in just the one year of having the new regs in place. The article mentions that for some reason the average angler at Strawberry is 10 times more likely to take home what he catches than at ANY OTHER FISHERY IN THE STATE. So, because of that, along with the number of hours fished, and the increasing chub population, the DWR HAD TO impliment the new regs to keep the lake's fishery in good condition for all to enjoy. One other thing that caught my attention was that the lake has to be stocked VERY HEAVILY because it gets so much fishing pressure that the fish that are in there can only reproduce enough to sustain 60% of the lakes Cutthroat numbers. The other 40% of fish in there have to be stocked just to keep up with how many millions of fish are harvested from there each year.

I'd encourage you to go and read the article. Very interesting read that won't put you to sleep.[Wink]
