Just a quick question. How many holes is a person allowed to be using at one time?

No limit on the number of holes, just a limit on how many rods one can be fishing at any one time. There are a few places where one can use two rods if they have purchased a two-pole permit; otherwise, only one rod can be fished at a time.

Thanks, I didn't know if it was like some other places where you can have tip-ups on a couple holes.

I have heard about fishing in Idaho (I believe it was Idaho) where one can ice fish with five rods at a time. That has got to get wild trying to keep track of five rods.

That happened to me once when I was ice fishing with my grandson at Scofield. While I was helping him with his rod, mine was unattended a few yards away. I looked up just in time to see the tip and then the reel and handle of my ice-fishing rod disappear down the hole. Zip! Just like that. It must have been a big fish on the end of the line. I never got the pole back, but I did get a good story to tell. Sometimes a good story is worth more than a fishing pole.

Like they said you can have as many holes as you want but can only use one at a time without a special permit that isn't avalilable on most waters in the state that freeze. I bring a second pole sometimes so I can try different lures and baits easily but only one in at a time. Never have a dead hole that way while changing tackle.

I for one would like to see an ice fishing second pole permit that would be good on all waters. I don't think it's too hard to watch two rods at a time but it can get very comical when the fish are biting!
