New king in town
#1
There's a new steel leader out that I had the opportunity to try yesterday for the first time before the typhoon got too close. It's called Tyger Leader. I wasn't shure how it would work, or how strong it would be, but I now no longer have any doughts. The biggest size that I found was 70 pound, and it's very thin and ties like a charm. Who would've thought, tieable steel leader. The most amazing part about it is the action of the lures. It's like using 40 pound mono for a leader. The lures have unmatched freedom. My yo zuri's were working like they had an electric shock up thier A hole hummin' a chubby checker song. But don't fret, the strength is there too. The 70 held up superbly to numerous runs of 30 lb plus Wahoo. Not to mention the occasional football here and there. The only thing is that a 30ft spool of 70 pound test is 28 bucks. That's a little pricey, but, I think i'm sold. 70lb leader has a .030 diameter, that's about the same as 40 pound big game mono. Obviously, it's not strong enough for billfish, or, high-speed trolling, things of which require 100+ pound leaders. But, for kings, mahi, and things like that, i'd say perfection. It's completely tieable and versitle. Maybe the price will come down a bit sometime soon. I don't think you could ask for a better leader for casting lures either. Well, check it out boys, I promise you won't be dissapointed.

Thanks for the heads up on the leader material. I use a lot of steel leader here in Cali for shark fishing. I will get some and test it out.

Check your PM for a special message.[cool]

It most certainly is. If you don't have a large scale tackle dealer in your local area, try this web site:

I found Tyger in the more upscale fly fishing shops. Your right it is a good product. Now I just need that Musky or Laker to test it out.[Wink]

Hey there Tarpon4me,

Yes ..... BFT product testing board had the offer to test that fantastic line and I was happy to give it a thumbs up myself.

There are a growing number of lines made of stronger-than-steel leader material out there but they are expensive. The titainium line is like outta my range. I only wish the tyger line had that line in 2 and 4 pound tests. They may have now but when I googled them before it seemed like it was a higher test ratings deal.
